No, they are our partners! Customers with onboarding platforms add Carrier Assure to make things easier. We compliment the onboarding platforms by cutting through all the data and giving you an answer. Onboarding platforms have so much wonderful data, but to scale your business, some employees cannot be analyzing and going through that data, so we help guide them. We provide an answer. We synthesize and distill all the data with powerful algorithms to create an easy to understand score of A through F. This allows you to build easy to use procedures for your business and place controls on the use of certain trucking companies.. For example, your after hours team is not allowed to activate or book a carrier with a certain score. Or, for high value shipments, only the trucking companies with a score of an A or a B are allowed to be used.
We use data science, deep industry experience, lots of data, and analytics to try to predict how a trucking company or broker is likely to perform (or arrange) long-haul, interstate shipments so that you may utilize the best-suited provider for your business needs. We built powerful algorithms that consistently comb through lots of data and recalculate each score daily. Each trucking company and broker are compared to peers, and their score reflects their relative performance based on over millions of data points. If you want to know more, click here.
Yes, of course. The score is a performance indicator for full truckload, interstate shipments and intended to only be a guide when you’re deciding whether a provider is appropriate for your business. Conduct additional vetting on low scoring providers and perhaps assign a local, easy, low value shipment to test the provider’s capabilities before tendering a full truckload, interstate shipment. Absolutely. When scoring trucking companies, DOT violations are considered along with their severity, timing, and many other factors. All relevant FMCSA data, including CSA measures, percentiles, inspections, and reported insurance, is automatically included in Carrier Assure’s algorithms. No. Carrier Assure is intended to compliment your onboarding platform or your current insurance vetting process, but we do not collect insurance certificates. We analyze the insurance data received from the FMCSA for trucking companies, considering the types of insurance, relationships with the reported provider, and insurance amounts, which are all reflected in the score.
We only score trucking companies that have valid, for-hire, interstate motor carrier authority with the FMCSA and brokers who have valid FMCSA broker authority and the appropriate bond on file. We do not score trucking companies with a safety rating of Conditional or Unsatisfactory. You may see trucking companies scored that engage in other modes of transportation, to learn more about those modes, watch this video here.
Yes. All relevant FMCSA data points are considered. If a trucking company has broker authority and its peers do not, it may have a lower score than its peers because of such authority.

Yes. Each type of SuspectCarrier Report impacts a carrier’s score depending on the severity of the reason selected and depending on how recent the incident occured.
Some of the reasons to file a report against a trucking company include: double brokering, hostage load, cargo claim issue, no insurance, theft, fraud, customer solicitation, and suspicious activity.
From an industry perspective, double brokering is when a carrier informs a broker or shipper that the carrier will transport the goods under specific DOT and MC numbers and the carrier in turns, gives or transports the shipment under different DOT and MC numbers.
When a carrier brokers a shipment to another DOT and/or MC number without informing the customer, it is considered one of the worst things a carrier can do to a broker or shipper. Indeed, many major shippers and brokers will never work with a carrier again for such conduct. This is because double brokering is tightly correlated with theft, cargo claims, hostage loads, no insurance, and other serious service related issues.
No, so long as the carrier actually used an owner operator and did not use another carrier - which is brokering without permission. The difference is that when a carrier uses an owner operator, the owner operator transports the goods using the carriers DOT and MC number. When a carrier engages in brokering, the DOT and MC number changes. So, if the carrier provides a shipper and broker with a DOT/MC number and the goods are transported under a different DOT/MC number, that is not an owner operator, that is brokering (ie double brokering).
There are many users who are experts in the industry and are able to quickly recognize chameleon carriers and carriers who may engage in wrongdoing such as double brokering, fraud and theft. Those users will use the reason “Suspicious Activity” to file a report to warn other users that this carrier may engage in wrongful conduct. Examples include, associated entities, falsified bills of lading or other documents, the use of factoring companies well known to be involved in certain wrongdoing and more. Suspicous acitivity reports simply indicate to shippers and brokers that additional vetting is necessary.
It's easy! When you are on that particular carrier’s profile, navigate to the reports tab, place your cursor on the right hand side of the page and scroll down. You should see your past report filed against that carrier. You can edit, delete or file another report for a different reason.

Yes. Reports filed against a broker may impact the score depending on the type of report, severity of the reason selected and how recent the incident occurred.
The reasons to file a report against the broker include: No Pay, Slow Pay, Double Brokering, Improper Shipment Info, Unfair Changes, Fraud, and Others. We do not allow reports for service related issues. We encourage trucking companies to use the service feature (stars) for such compliants.
When a broker has intentionally tendered the shipment to another broker, without the shipper/customer’s permission, and that shipment is then tendered to a carrier - that is double brokering for a broker
When a broker tenders a shipment to another broker without informing the customer, it increases the risk that problems will occur such as theft, cargo claims, hostage loads, no insurance, and other serious issues. The trucking company is at high risk for not getting paid when a broker double brokers a shipment.
When a broker tenders a shipment to another broker with the customer’s knowledge and consent, that is co-brokering and it is acceptable because there is transparency involved
